Of course this is what's on most people minds in the concept phase but through the actual design and creativity phase; it can gradually get shoved to the back burner.
The best way to avoid this is to become familiar with techniques in Web Design to improve business in the very beginning. Now as you are first rolling concepts around in your head. So then, in plain English, what are some of the best techniques that have been developed? Web design techniques that will transfer directly over into increased revenue.
“Give-aways” are the oldest trick in the book. Long before you were even born, merchants have been pulling people through their doors with offers of “something free”. There is that element out there that just can't refuse a free-bee and there always will be. So then, how can you give something away without getting involved with the expense and hassles of shipping?
The answer to that is “free information products”. A free “non promotional” eBook that your sites visitors can receive instantly by signing up for. For them, it's a one time gift but for you, it's a gift that can keep on giving. You see once they give you their email address, you're free to contact them for promotional purposes further down the road.
While you're at it, why not include some auto-responder emails. These are pre-written emails that are automatically sent out to give your promotion the “personal contact touch”. The first one might be a “Hi friend, glad to get to know you email”. Then the following emails can be “I forgot to (mention something) in the last mail” messages. If they're written well, no one will ever suspect that they are “mass marketing communications”.
Of course you may want to give serious consideration to including a “comments page and function”. For instance, if you’re selling wine, it would be a place for wine drinkers to share shop talk. By the way, a comments page is also a great place for you to slip in your own positive comments (from time to time) on products you are offering for sale.
Through it all though you should take a little time to read up on the topic of “search engine optimization” or SEO. It's the means by which you get your site moved up towards the front pages in the search engines. One item in particular that you will want to pay close attention to, is (keyword placement). Keywords are a double edged sword. Do them wrong and it can hurt you. Do them right and it will help you.
